Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Alice Mary Luscombe was born in the Otago Goldfields in 1871, the daughter of John Barter Luscombe, a miner, and Elizabeth Sidrey.
Shortly after her birth Alice’s father died when he fell into a water race in the dark and drowned.
About 1883 Alice’s family moved to Dunedin. When she signed the suffrage petition, they were living in York Place and she was working as a dressmaker. Alice's mother, Elizabeth, also signed the petition.
Alice married Frederick James Andrews, a telegraphist, on 8 November 1905 at the Leith St Congregational Church in Dunedin. They had one son.
Alice died on 25 October 1955 at Blenheim. Frederick died in 1963. They are buried together in the Omaka Cemetery, Blenheim.
