The 1893 electoral roll confirms Kaikorai Rd Roslyn
Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Lydia Taylor was born about 1837 in Nottinghamshire, England – the daughter of William Taylor, a stationer, and Lydia Neale.
She married Alfred Henry Burton, a photographer, on 15 November 1864 in Leicestershire, England.
They had two daughters in England before they travelled to New Zealand about 1869.
Alfred and his brother Walter owned the Burton Brothers photographic studio in Dunedin with Alfred travelling around the country taking panoramic views and portraits.
A further three children were born in New Zealand, one appears to have in infancy.
The brother’s partnership was dissolved in 1877 and when Lydia singed the suffrage petition the family were living in Kaikorai Valley Road in the Sunnyside subdivision of Roslyn.
At this time Alfred was working as an elocution teacher, he died in 1914.
Lydia died at her home on 8 January 1921, she is buried with Alfred in the Northern Cemetery.
