Margaret Scott was born in 1868 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Scott, an engineer, and Ann Hamilton.
Margaret married John Aitchison, an engineer, on 30 November 1888 at her parents’ home in Burnside near Dunedin.
They had five children and when Margaret signed the suffrage petition they were living at Rockyside, Caversham.
In the late 1900s the family moved to Timaru then to Hastings.
Margaret died at her daughter’s home in Penrose on 18 August 1931 and John died in 1939.
They are buried together in the Hillsborough Cemetery, Auckland.
