Mary Elizabeth Allison was born in 1870 – the daughter of Alexander Allison, a farmer, and Mary Petchell nee Grey. (See 106 Mary Allison)

When she signed the suffrage petition Mary was living with her family in Puerua.

She married John Henry Mennell, a fisherman and widower with six children, on 24 February 1914 in Dunedin.

John died in 1931 in Balclutha and Mary died on 22 May 1940, also in Balclutha.

They are both buried in the Balclutha Cemetery.
