Mary Elizabeth Routledge was born in Victoria, Australia in 1863 – the daughter of William Routledge, a machinist, and Harriet Arnold.

Mary came to New Zealand with her family about 1878, they settled in South Dunedin. Mary married John William Davison in 1883, they had five children and lived in Bathgate St, Sth Dunedin then, later, in Helena St.

Mary died at Helena St on 28 September 1903, aged 40. She is buried in the Southern Cemetery with three of her children.

John re-married in 1905. He died in 1941 and is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery with his second wife.
