Mary Ann Forbes Gilmore was born in 1870 in New Zealand, the daughter of Alexander Gilmore and Isabella Finlay Forbes.
She spent her first years in Green Island near Dunedin before the family moved to Palmerston in North Otago.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living near Palmerston, working as a housemaid.
She did not marry. She died on December 20th 1956 in Auckland.
She was cremated and her ashes buried in the Waikumete Cemetery.
