May Seatter was born in Orkney, Scotland, aorund 1855. She married Thomas Miller on 31 July 1874 in Orkney. They emigrated to New Zealand in about 1875 and settled in Dunedin.

They had 10 children together, and when May signed the suffrage petition they were living on Maitland St. They later moved to Kensington where Thomas died in 1908.

May died on 18 March 1934, and they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
