Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Alice Marion Clark was born about 1855 in Stornaway, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland – the daughter of Peter Clark, a school teacher, and Jessie Alexander.
She emigrated to Otago in 1875 on the Timaru with her mother and two sisters and married John O’Shea, a law clerk, on 15 April 1876 in Dunedin.
They had 10 children, one who died in infancy, and when Alice signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Main Rd, North East Valley.
They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in April 1926 with a family gathering.
Alice died later that year on 27 August and John died in 1928, they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
