Margaret Watson was born about 1840 in Ireland.

She married James Annan, a ploughman also from Ireland, on June 3rd 1859 in Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotland.

They had 3 sons, one who died in infancy, before they emigrated to New Zealand in the mid 1860s.

They had a further 5 children after their arrival and lived in the Waikouaiti district, where Margaret signed the suffrage petition.

James died at their home in 1894 and Margaret remarried in 1906 to John Bonar Long.

John worked as a shearer and a seaman. He died at Dunedin Hospital in 1915 and is buried in the Northern Cemetery.

Margaret died at her home in Waikouaiti on November 9th 1916. Dhe is buried with James in the Waikouaiti Cemetery.
