Biographical information provided by Lenie Nilsen for the He Tohu exhibition:

Margaret Isabella Hill was born in Ireland in 1853. She travelled to New Zealand and at age 30 and married Samuel Hoy at Knox Church in Dunedin on 10 September 1883. 

Samuel was a miner and also a Dredge Master.  He died in 1924, aged 72 years.

Samuel and Margaret had four children: Margaret Colville (1888-1977) 88 years, Jane Reid (1890–1940) 50 years, Agnes (1894-1913) 19 years, and James Hoy (1897–?).

James married Alice Ovens, Kaikorai, Dunedin on 12 May 1920. Alice died 1982 aged 86 years.

Margaret died at age 84, 30 April 1937 and is buried at Andersons Bay Cemetery, Dunedin.

Margaret Isabella HOY [ nee HILL ]. Married Samuel Hoy in 1883, in Dunedin, lived in Caversham. Sam Hoy was a miner and a Dredgemaster. I have evidence that they lived - or at least Margaret did - in Denniston, on the West Coast. Seeing Sam was a miner.. is this the clinch ?
