Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Rule was born about 1830 in Lancashire, England.

She married John Dawson Tate, a furniture broker, in Whitehaven, Cumberland in 1863.

She came to New Zealand in the mid-1870s - what happened to John is unclear.

Mary married Thomas Aldridge, a widower, in 1886 and when she signed the suffrage petition they were living in Greymouth.

Thomas died in June 1898 and Mary died later that year on 29 November – they are both buried in the Karoro Cemetery, Greymouth.
