Mary Ennis Mouritz was born about 1849 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of Philip James Ennis Mouritz and Rebecca Robe.
She married William Barrington Agnew, a carpenter - later known as William Barrington, in 1868 in New Zealand.
They had nine children and when Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Owaka.
In 1899 they went to live in Dunedin where William died in 1904, he is buried in the Southern Cemetery.
Mary moved back to Owaka – she died at her son’s home in Dunedin on 13 December 1933 and is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
