Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Elizabeth Fordham was born in 1857 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of Thomas Richard Fordham, a lighterman and boatman, and Ellen Symes. (See 341 Ellen Fordham)

As a child Mary travelled between Victoria and Bluff at least three times.

She married William Crozier, a railway shunter, on 21 April 1887 at her parents’ home in Campbeltown and they had three children.

When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Campbeltown near Bluff.

William died in 1913 and Mary died at her home in Bluff on 1 October 1916, they are buried in the family grave in the Bluff Cemetery.

Mary’s obituary said 'she was prominently connected with the Bluff Methodist Church, and in all her activities she was a “Mother of Israel”. Other institutions had also at all times her practical help and sympathy.'
