Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Dawson Hynes was born about 1861.

She married Peter Henderson, a carrier, in 1879 in New Zealand and they had, at least, three children.

The family lived near Arrowtown in Central Otago where Peter worked as a coal merchant.

He was declared bankrupt in 1886 and by the time Mary signed the suffrage petition the family had moved to Dunedin & were living in Athol Terrace, near Hanover St.

They moved back to Arrowtown where John died in 1899, aged 44.

Mary died on 23 May 1908 in Dunedin, aged 47, they are buried together in the Arrowtown Cemetery.
