Mary Ann Kellagher was born in Ireland about 1865. She emigrated to Otago in 1883 on the Forfarshire. Also on board were Jane and Bridget Kellagher, possibly Mary Ann's sisters.
She married John Holleyman, a cook, in 1886. They had six children.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition, she was living in Short St, off Hanover St between Castle and Cumberland Sts in Dunedin. The family later moved to North Dunedin.
John died in 1909. Mary died on 5 May 1943. They are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.
