Mary Isabella Barron was born in Bombay, India in 1848. She was the third daughter of James Barron and Mary Wilson. Her three sisters were also born in Bombay, and her parents had been married there. Her father was a well-known silversmith who died in 1852.
It is not known when several of the Barron girls migrated to New Zealand, but two came here, and one to Australia. Mary evidently settled in Hawke's Bay, where she lived at 42 Chaucer Rd, Napier, from at least 1893 until her death in 1935.
