Augusta Caroline Louisa Beissel was born in 1872 in New Zealand – the daughter of Franz Beissel, a hairdresser, and Caroline Wilhelmina Gohring.

When she signed the suffrage petition Augusta was living in Cargill St, Dunedin, with her family.

Augusta did not marry, and she died on 2 December 1962 and was cremated.
