Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Elizabeth Hill was born about 1821 in Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotland – the daughter of Robert Hill and Helen Thomson.
She married James Graham Adair, a cabinetmaker, in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire in 1848 and they had six children, one who died in infancy, before they emigrated to New Zealand in the 1870s.
They settled in Dunedin and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living in Oxford St, South Dunedin.
James died in July 1906 and Elizabeth died later that year on 6 September – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
