Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jessie McClue was born on 12 June 1863 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland – the daughter of William McClue, a dyer, and Euphemia Duncan.

She emigrated to Otago in 1874 with her family on the Parsee and they settled in Dunedin.

Jessie married Robert Barclay, a bootmaker, on 9 November 1885 and they had seven children.

When Jessie signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Cargill Rd, South Dunedin.

Robert died in 1919 - he is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.

Sometime after Robert’s death Jessie moved to Christchurch where her son Robert was living. She died there on 27 October 1934 and is buried in the Sydenham Cemetery.
