Mary Morris was born in 1851 in Nottinghamshire, England – the daughter of Thomas Morris, an agricultural labourer, and Ann Marriott. (See 33 Ann Morris snr)
In 1858 Mary’s family emigrated to Otago on the Nourmahal and settled on the Otago Peninsula.
Mary married Thomas Popham Braid, a farmer, in 1870 and they had 10 children.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living at Highcliff, they later moved to 'Woodend' in Woodhaugh, Dunedin where Thomas died in 1910.
Mary died on 2 June 1934, she is buried with Thomas in the Northern Cemetery.
