Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Kerr was born about 1846 and she came to New Zealand about 1862.

She married Allan Broad on 16 February 1865 in Dunedin and they had nine children.

They lived, at first, in Otepopo (now known as Herbert) in North Otago where they ran a store before moving back to Dunedin in the mid 1870s.

When Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Manders Rd, North East Valley.

Margaret died on 8 June 1908, she is buried with some of her children in the Northern Cemetery.

After Margaret’s death Allan went to live in with his two daughters in Sydney where he died in 1930.
