Ellen Jackson was born in 1869 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Jackson and Eliza Smith.
She married Alexander Brooke, a bootmaker, on 1 December 1890 in Dunedin and they had three children.
When Ellen signed the suffrage petition the family were living in North East Valley, Dunedin.
Around 1920, when Alexander had retired, they moved to Sydney where Ellen died on 1 July 1931.
Alexander died in 1935 – they are buried together in the Rookwood General Cemetery.
