Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Elizabeth Primrose was born about 1852 in Ireland – the daughter of Andrew Primrose, a farmer, and Isabella Watson.
She came to New Zealand with her parents in the 1860s and they settled in Hamilton.
Elizabeth married Constable William Brown on 10 September 1875 at her home 'Cherrybrooke'.
They had nine children and after several years in the North Island they moved to Arrowtown where William was promoted to Sergeant.
In the early 1890s the family came to Dunedin and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living in Macandrew Road, South Dunedin.
William died at their home in 1900 and Elizabeth died on 18 December 1933 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
