Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Caroline Wren was born about 1859 in Clapham, Surrey – the daughter of James Timothy Wren, a wheelwright, and Caroline Mitchell.

Caroline emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the James Nicol Fleming with her parents and seven siblings.

She married William Booker in 1883. They had eight children.

William ran a fruiters shop in Princes St, but was declared bankrupt in 1883. The family moved to Burnside where their two year old daughter died when she fell into a neighbour’s well in 1894. They lost two sons in WWI.

William died in Dunedin in 1932 and Caroline died in Christchurch in April 1945. She was cremated & her ashes were interred in the family plot in the Southern Cemetery.
