Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Annie Maria Day was born in about 1849, and she married David Day in 1868 in Lyttleton. They had seven children and lived in Lyttleton, Westport, and finally in Dunedin where David worked as a Customs Officer. Their daughter Edith also signed the 1893 suffrage petition.

David retired in 1903 after 40 years of service and was granted a pension. He died in 1905. Annie then petitioned the government for a compassionate allowance due to the fact that David only had 14 months to use his pension. The result of the petition is unknown.

Annie died on 24 June 1927, she is buried with David in the Southern Cemetery.
