Jeanie Thomson was born about 1856 in Edinburgh, Scotland – the daughter of George Thomson, a farm servant, and Helen Leadbetter.

She travelled to Otago with her family on the Jura, arriving in 1858 and they settled in Dunedin.

Jeanie married David Dickie, a clerk, on 26 April 1879 - they had no children.

When Jeanie signed the suffrage petition Jeanie and David were living with David’s family in Elm Row, Dunedin In 1898 they moved to Christchurch where David died in 1904. Jeanie died on 18 September 1944 and is buried with David in the Sydenham Cemetery.
