My Great Grandmother Mrs E Spencer was born Harriet Hitchens 12 July 1862, in Wellington, daughter of Joseph Hitchens, Butcher, and Elizabeth Beavon.

Harriet married Enoch Spencer (son of 65th Regiment Private Edmund Spencer and Ann Frost Saunders), on 12th July 1882 children Enoch Harold (1883-1918); Alice Harriet (1884-1964); Amelia Annie (1886-1966); Edmund Joseph (1888-1964); Ernest Roland (1890-1918) Albert Lionel (1891-1892); Ethel May (1895-1895); Henry Gordon (1896-1962); Leonard William Bevan (1901-1990).

Three sons fought WW1. Enoch Harold and Ernest died within 3 days of Flu Epidemic in 1918.

Enoch was a Brickmaker, for the Luke Foundry In 1895 Harriet and Enoch lived at 61 Wright Street, and in 1911 5 Salisbury Terrace. Harriet died on 20 March 1939 at 13 Awa Road, Miramar. Harriet was registered on 1896 Electoral Roll Sheet 333.
