Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Anna Henrietta Mason was born in 1853 in Greenwich, Kent – the daughter of George William Mason, a seaman, and Henrietta Mouchon. (See 62 Mrs Mason)

In 1860 Anna sailed for Victoria, Australia on the Lincolnshire with her mother and brother, her father had presumably worked his passage.

Shortly after the family moved to Otago and settled in Port Chalmers where her father was a partner is a firm of stevedores supplying water to shipping.

Anna married Samuel Brian Gibson, an accountant, on 24 December 1872 at St Paul’s Church, Dunedin.

They had five children, one who died in infancy, and when Anna signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Laing St, Caversham.

Samuel died in Timaru in 1909, he is buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.

Anna died in Christchurch on 22 February 1944, her burial place is unknown.
