Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Baty was born about 1838 in Stanhope, Durham, England – the daughter of John Baty, a lead miner, and Hannah.

She married Jacob Graham, a bootmaker, in 1870 and they had four children before the family emigrated to Otago in 1879 on the Margaret Galbraith.

They settled at Highcliff on the Otago Peninsula where they had a farm and where Margaret signed the suffrage petition.

Margaret died at their home 'Claremont', Highcliff on 15 December 1911 and Jacob died in 1918, they are buried with their son in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
