Sarah was born about 1852 in Oxfordshire, England.
She married Henry Berry, a farm labourer, in 1872 and the young couple emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the Scimitar.
They settled in Dunedin and had nine children - when Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Green Island, near Dunedin.
Henry died at their home in Abbotsford in 1921 and Sarah died, also at home, on 4 July 1941.
They are buried in the family grave in the Green Island Cemetery.
