Helen Brown was born about 1841– she married James Grant in 14 September 1860 in Dunedin.

They had five children and when Helen signed the suffrage petition they were farming at Highcliff on the Otago Peninsula.

Helen died on 26 June 1927 at her son’s home in Waitara near New Plymouth, James had died sometime before.

She is buried in the Waitara Cemetery.
