Jemima Amelia Perry was born in 1855 in London – the daughter of George Perry, a carman, and Jemima Hobbs.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1875 on the Margaret Galbraith.
She married Alexander Bain Henderson, a miner, in 1879 and they had five children.
When Jemima signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Blue Spur near Lawrence.
In the 1900s the family moved to Dunedin where Alexander died in 1927.
Jemima died on 6 October 1928 at her daughter’s home in Dunedin, she is buried with Alexander in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
