Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Marianne/Mary Ann Helena Slattery was born about 1830 in Ireland.

She emigrated to Australia and she married Edward Wilson in Victoria in 1855.

What happened to Edward and whether she had any children is unclear.

Marianne came to Otago in the early 1860s and she married Henry Duncan, a contractor, on 23 February 1863 in Dunedin.

They had six children, three who died in infancy, and when Marianne signed the suffrage petition they were living in North East Valley.

Marianne died on 7 July 1918 and Henry died in September the same year, they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
