Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Annie was born about 1858 in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

She married John Anderson, a coal miner, in the 1870s and they had a son before they emigrated to Otago in 1879 on the Auckland accompanied by John’s extended family.

They had, at least, a further seven children and when Annie signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Fairfield, near Dunedin.

John died in 1926 and Annie died at her home on 3 November 1931 – they are buried together in the Green Island Cemetery.
