Amy Hilda Cannon was born about 1859 in England.
She emigrated to New Zealand and married James Jasper Dowland, a seaman, in 1880.
They had four sons, one who died in childhood, and when Amy signed the suffrage petition the family were living Duncan St, Dunedin near James’ brother and his family. (See 140 Mrs E Dowland) James died in 1904, he is buried in the Southern Cemetery with two of their sons.
Amy died at her home in Cutten St, South Dunedin on 10 November 1946, she is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery with another of their sons.
