Janet/Jessie McGregor was born about 1840 in Scotland, she married John Anthony Black on 1 January 1866 in Dunedin and they had six children.

When Janet signed the suffrage petition the family were living in George St, Dunedin.

John died in 1901 and Janet died on 2 July 1929, they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
