Sarah Osborne was born about 1851 in Essex, England. In 1877 Sarah arrived in Otago on the Marlborough, she was accompanied by her mother, step-father, sister and two step siblings. Her sister was Charlotte Brown of Helena St, also on page 70 of the petition.

In 1879 Sarah married Robert Shacklock Stanley and they had five children. In 1893 they were living in Josephine St, Caversham and in 1897 Robert was a tally clerk for the NZ Shipping Company.

By 1911 they were living in Fitzroy St, Sarah died at Manse St (now Thorn St), Caversham on 4 December 1901 and Robert in 1912.

They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
