Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Matilda Adeline Port was born about 1867 in Londonderry, Ireland.

She emigrated to Otago in 1883 on the Forfarshire and she married farmer Andrew Liddell on 12 August 1885 in the Waihola Parish.

They had 13 children and lived in Green Island and Caversham.

When Matilda signed the suffrage petition they were living in Sydney St, Caversham.

They later moved to Balfour where Andrew died in 1913 when his horse rolled on him.

Matilda died on 25 June 1948 – she is buried with Andrew in the Balfour Cemetery.
