Mary Jane Credgington was born in 1862 in Staffordshire, England – the daughter of Thomas Credgington, a painter, and Ellen Bartlett.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1875 on the Wild Deer and they settled in Dunedin.
Mary married Moses Pooly Wright, a butcher, in 1886 and they had two daughters.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Main Rd, South Dunedin.
Moses died in 1929 in Dunedin – he is buried in the Southern Cemetery.
In later life Mary went to live in Rangiora near her daughter Ethel.
Mary died at the Rangiora Hospital on 19 March 1953 – she was cremated in Christchurch.
