Elizabeth Ann Wilson was born around 1827 in Ireland. She married John Emerson in about 1846. They had eight children before John died in 1868, and their daughter Martha also signed the suffrage petition.

In 1870 Elizabeth and her children emigrated to Canterbury on the Siberia.

In September of the same year she married Richard Pitkin, a farmer, and the family settled in Weedons, south of Christchurch.

Elizabeth died on 6 April 1905. Richard re-married and he died in 1921. Elizabeth is buried with Richard in the Weedons Wesleyan Cemetery.
