Ann Simpson was born on 23 December 1834 in Perthshire, Scotland – the daughter of James Simpson, a brewer, and Barbara Macfarlane.

She married John Pringle, a carter, on 10 October 1856 in Perth, they had two children in Perth, one died in infancy, before they emigrated to Otago in 1859 on the Avonvale.

Their daughter died one month after their arrival in Dunedin. Ann and John were to have a further seven children in New Zealand and when Ann she signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Melville Lane (off Great King St), Dunedin.

John died in 1917 and Ann died on 21 June 1918, they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
