Matilda Coster was born about 1846. 

She married Robert Bolton, a paper worker, in 1881. They had a daughter about one month before their marriage.

When Matilda signed the suffrage petition, the family were living at Woodhaugh, Dunedin near the Woodhaugh paper mill.

Matilda died on 14 October 1901 and Robert died in 1911. They are buried together in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.
