Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Sarah Jane Johnson was born in 1871 in New Zealand – the daughter of Thomas Corringham Johnson, a farmer, and Sarah Ann. She married Richard John Williams, a coachsmith, in 1891 and they had three children.
When she signed the suffrage petition Sarah and her family were living in Dalry St, Dunedin. In the 1900s the family moved to Wellington then to Palmerston North.
Richard died there in 1941 and Sarah died on 19 August 1945. They are buried together in the Kelvin Grove Cemetery, Palmerston North.
