Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Emma Hambleton was born in 1863 in Cheshire, England – the daughter of William Hambleton, a joiner, and Sarah Jane Sinkinson.

She emigrated to New Zealand about 1864 with her family and she married James Rendel, a bootmaker, in 1884.

They had seven children, one who died in infancy, and when Emma signed the suffrage petition the family were living in David St, Caversham.

Emma died at her home on 11 April 1925 and James died in 1942, they are buried with their infant daughter in the Southern Cemetery.
