Janet/Janette McClean was born about 1858 in Ireland – the daughter of William McClean and Jane Meikle.
She emigrated to New Zealand and married Thomas Rippin, a butcher, on 6 September 1880 in Dunedin - they had two sons.
Thomas died in 1892 at the age of 37 and when Janet signed the suffrage petition she was living in Albany St.
She married Louis Dasler, a farmer, in December 1895, he was a widower with a large family whose wife had died in childbirth earlier in the year.
They lived in Otiake in North Otago until Louis died in 1923 - he is buried with his first wife in the Oamaru Cemetery.
After Louis’ death Janet moved back to Dunedin and lived with her son, she died on 18 December 1935 and is buried with Thomas in the Northern Cemetery.
