Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Susannah Emma Barton was born about 1821 in Brighton, Sussex, England – the daughter of George Barton, a shoemaker, and Elizabeth. Susanna had a son in 1846 and sometime later married a Mr Trower.

On 17 August 1862 at St Nicholas’ Church, Brighton, she married Robert Brennan and shortly after emigrated to New Zealand with her son. Robert’s fate is unknown and when Susannah signed the suffrage petition she was living in Glen Road, Dunedin. Susannah's grandaughter Adeline also signed the petition.

She died on 25 July 1895 and is buried in the Southern Cemetery with her son and granddaughter.
