Jemima Grieve was born on 4 October 1857 in Edinburgh, Scotland – the daughter of Lilias Grieve.

She emigrated to Otago in 1876 on the Dunedin and she married Silas Hore, a miner, on 6 February 1879 at Ravensbourne, Dunedin.

They had seven children and when Jemima signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Blue Spur near Lawrence in Central Otago.

They moved to Wellington in the 1900s where Silas died in 1923.

Jemima died on 7 June 1940 at her daughter’s home in Wellington, she is buried with Silas in the Karori Cemetery.
