Catherine Watt was born about 1857 in Lanarkshire, Scotland.

She married Stewart Guthrie in 1877 and they had two children before they emigrated to Otago about 1881.

They settled at Walton Park, near Fairfield, where they had a further four children, Stewart worked as a pit headman and Catherine signed the suffrage petition.

In the late 1890s the family moved to South Dunedin where Catherine died on 9 November 1916 – she is buried in the Southern Cemetery.

Stewart died in 1928 – he is  buried with one of their sons in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
