Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Thirza Harriet Elizabeth Havill was born in 1862 in Torquay, Devonshire, England – the daughter of William Havill and Thirza Chilcott. She emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the Corona with her widowed mother and three siblings.

She married George Scott, a clerk, in 1880 and they had nine children. They lived at first in Dunedin, then shifted to Wellington where Thirza died on 30 November 1927. George died in 1930. They were both cremated and their ashes are interred in the Karori Cemetery.
