Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley:

Ann Davidson Denovan was born in 1859 in Manchester, Lancashire, England – the daughter of Andrew Davidson Denovan, a commercial traveller, and Mary Martha Parry.

Annie came to Dunedin with her family in the early 1870s. Annie had an illegitimate daughter in 1878 who died at five weeks old.

She married Thomas Aitken, a labourer, in 1881 – they had 10 children, one dying in infancy. The family lived in the Kensington area of South Dunedin.

Annie died on 17 March 1935 at her home in Bridgman St, Kensington, and Thomas died in 1936 at Tiraumea, North Island.

They are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
